Steps to Funding the Redwood SEED Scholars Program for Students and Families

Step One:

Social Security Disability Insurance - sign up for Social Security Disability Insurance - this money can be used for the Housing costs associated with our program

We have braided services!

There are two state agencies that receive state and federal funding that are dedicated to supporting young adults with intellectual disabilities: the California Department of Rehabilitation and the California Department of Developmental Services.

BOTH of those state agencies support the Redwood SEED Scholars Program. The scholar must be signed up in the systems and have both a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor and a Regional Center Service Coordinator.

The tuition, the technology and the transportation is funded by the California Department of Rehabilitation.

The Living Learning Lab experience is funded through Regional Center vendorization, using Service Code 107.

With those two funding streams, the Redwood SEED Scholars Program is currently fully funded for families.

NOTE: Prices do increase over time and there may come a time when some funding will be required of families but right now that is not the case.

Step Two:

Sign up with your local Department of Rehabilitation and create an Employment Plan

Step Three:

Sign up with your local Regional Center and create an IPP

Step Four:

Once you are signed up with the state agencies in steps two and three, YOU ARE NOT DONE. The scholar must have an Employment Goal written with their Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor that is in alignment with what the Redwood SEED Scholars Program offers.

Step Five:

The scholar must also develop and write an Independent Living Goal and an Employment Goal with their Service Coordinator from the Regional Center that is in alignment with what the Redwood SEED Scholars Program offers.

When all five of these steps have been completed, the program may be fully funded.
